The Golden Lily By: Richelle Mead
Okay to start off and give my general opinion of the book, to those who have not yet read it, i absolutely LOVED this book! It constantly had me flipping the pages, staying up late, skipping meals, just to see what happened. I just kept telling myself, "i'll finish this chapter and go to bed." But there was a mini-cliffhanger at the end of each chapter, to where you had to keep reading! Okay so now I am going to go more in-depth with the book, and talk about the ending so...
SPOILER ALERT!!!
So lets just talk about him and get it over with! Brayden, i didn't like the idea of Sydney getting romantically involved with him throughout the book, because as we all know, she is meant for Adrian. But also think it was good for her to branch out and to feel normal, because that's all Sydney ever wanted to be. As much as i didn't like Brayden, i still got goosebumps on pg. 124, when Sydney told Brayden that he was wrong, and he pulled the car over and said "You, are amazing. Absolutely, positively, exquisitely amazing." and then he kissed her! I am a huge Adrian fan, but i'm sorry, but that made me go into a fit of girly giggles, especially since Sydney was so confused why he kissed her! The fact that Sydney was so inexperienced with boys, was hilarious! especially when she wanted to read a book about how to kiss a guy, and the fact that she actually did! Priceless! So Brayden had some good moments, to be fair. But I wanted to drop-kick him so badly, when he would get mad at her, because she had "family stuff", and that he didn't give her real compliments. I really wanted to see Adrian give him a punch or two! Especially when Brayden dumped Sydney the way he did, but again Sydney made that moment funny, by her reaction to being called irresponsible!
Now moving on to Adrian, oh what a sweetheart! I seriously laughed out loud at some Adrian moments! I loved how Adrian stood up for Sydney on pg. 107, when Sonya and Dimitri asked to test some of Sydney's blood, and of course she isn't comfortable with it, so the amazing Adrian swoops in and comes to her rescue, telling them to stop pushing her, when she doesn't want to. It just showed Me, how much Adrian cared about the way Sydney felt. I loved how Adrian pretended to not know how to drive shift, just so he can spend more time with Sydney! It was so cute! One of my favorite Adrian moment, other than the end, is pg. 380, When Sydney escapes the hunters' hide-out and Adrian found out she was alone and wouldn't be able to find the guardians, so he went after her, by himself! Adrian has just seriously, grown-up A LOT in this book! He has proved that he cares enough about Sydney, to always be there for her. He has grown serious about his college classes, and his art. He has just turned from this outrageously hot/college drop-out/drunk/party boy, to a outrageously hot/college student/likes to drink but doesn't get drunk all the time/a really good and trustworthy friend!
So Sydney... I think she believes that strigoi are evil, and that they need to be destroyed. But she is definitely confused about her feelings with Moroi, her Brain is telling her that they are vampires, and that they are evil creatures of the night, but her heart is telling her that Jill, Eddie, Adrian, ect. are her friends, they are not actually evil, it's just the Strigoi that need to be destroyed. I also believe that Sydney wants to be loyal to the Alchemists, to her father and family, but she has hinted that this is not the life she wanted for herself, she wanted to be a architect, and go to college, and to be free to do what she wants. so to be said about that, Sydney learns, that Marcus Finch, who the warriors claimed is a "ex-alchemist" has a strange tattoo on his face, it is indigo ink, but she saw some gold in the colors, she later realized the indigo tattoo was covering the lily tattoo. So since the next book is titled "The Indigo Spell" my thoughts are that, since i think Sydney doesn't want to be a Alchemist, that she is going to learn more about Marcus and track him down. But also don't think that Sydney will become a "ex-alchemist"because there are going to be 6 books in the Bloodlines series.
Lets talk about the BEST part in the book!
The last chapter, is the main reason i bought this book, i was anticipating this moment since the end of bloodlines, i craved it, like someone on a diet would crave cheese fries. i wanted a (as the fan girls call it) a Sydrian moment! and it was everything i hoped for! I loved how Adrian went a week without smoking, because he knows Sydney doesn't like it. I loved how Adrian was completely honest with her! Especially with her insecurity about her weight and how she basically starves herself. I loved their kiss! I loved every moment in that chapter, right up to when Sydney started to think again, and she told Adrian to never kiss her again, and that it was wrong, and she ran out the door! OH MY GOODNESS! I punched my book at the end! But i mean seriously i did see this coming, she would kiss him, and then she would distance herself from him. But COME ON! It was such a good ending, until Sydney started thinking!
Overall though, i LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!
Excuse me, I am going to go "Fan Girl" all night long...
